ECHO project

Improvement of access to the basic needs for vulnerable families affected by the current crisis in Palestinian Territories.

In the framework of an ongoing project funded by ECHO, ACH in collaboration with ARIJ have started a Surveillance System in order to follow the socio-economic situation of Tubas population and to propose better adapted programs in the future.

In addition to this Surveillance System and in the framework of the same project, ACH is also implementing activities in Water & Sanitation and Food Security sectors:

Food Security Component

  • Construction and/or rehabilitation of shelters
  • Veterinary services
  • Trainings in breeding practices
  • Fodder distribution
Water & Sanitation
  • Water network rehabilitation, extension, and improvement of the quality of the water delivered.
  • Rain harvesting systems implementation
  • Water Trucking Quality Management
  • Rehabilitation, reconstruction and/ or construction of wells
  • Water analysis laboratories supply
  • Water quality control & monthly reports

Activities are located mainly in Tubas, Nablus, Jenin Districts and in Gaza Strip

The Surveillance System

The objective of the Surveillance System is to obtain a general knowledge of Tubas Governorate population. The System is based on information collected at different levels and by the way of precise indicators

  • District level.
  • Localities level.
  • Market level.
  • Household level (110 families are followed monthly)

According to the type of indicators (fixed, variable, thematic), information is collected:

  • On monthly bases for indicators that are expected to change very quickly: These indicators are essentially linked to the economic situation of the households.
  • Only once during the period of the project for indicators that are helping us to have a general idea of the socioeconomic situation and are giving us a point of reference.
  • Twice, at the beginning and at the end of the project in order to see if some variables have changed (or not).

The information is being collected by two field surveyors. Each month, a newsletter showing the most important results is published on the website (starting on February 2006)

First newsletter titled "Integrated Village Profile for Tubas Governorate" has already been published and shows first results on the socioeconomic situation of Tubas population. It gives us the baseline at district level.

Planned reports/newsletter for the coming months:

  • Tubas Governorate Profile: January 2006
  • Newsletter: February, March, April, May 2006
  • Individual Village Profile: May 2006
Note: Data already available are updated continuously by our field surveyors.
